Het zijn de marge van de samenleving en de schaduwkant van de menselijke geest die fotograaf en kunstenaar Roger Ballen altijd al hebben gefascineerd. In de loop van zijn carrière start Ballen met het maken van installaties, waarbij hij de macabere realiteit vermengt met decorstukken. Met deze uitgesproken ‘Ballenesque stijl’ creëert Ballen zijn eigen universum.

It’s the margins of society and the darker side of the human spirit that have always fascinated photographer and artist Roger Ballen. In the course of his career, Ballen has turned to making installations, in which he mingles the macabre reality with stage sets and props. This distinctive ‘Ballenesque style’ enables him to create his own universe.

Paula Rego in Kunstmuseum Den Haag
Kunstmuseum Den Haag presenteert in samenwerking met Tate de grootste overzichtstentoonstelling van Paula Rego tot nu toe, met meer dan zeventig collages, schilderijen, etsen en tekeningen. In haar figuratieve werk belicht ze persoonlijke worstelingen, waaronder een jarenlange depressie, maar ook sociaal-maatschappelijke problematiek zoals de minderwaardige positie van vrouwen.
In collaboration with Tate Britain, Kunstmuseum Den Haag is to host the biggest retrospective of Paula Rego’s work to date, featuring more than seventy collages, paintings, etchings and drawings. Her figurative paintings explore both her personal struggles, including years of depression, and social problems like the inferior status of women.
